First Things First
The very first thing you need to think about is your budget. How is Prom Night to be funded? If the answer is by ticket price alone then you have to keep the cost of the ticket within everyone’s reach. There is no point in spending a fortune on venue, food and entertainment if no one can afford to buy a ticket.
You can always fund raise to cover some of the cost. Wash staff cars, put on a band night, anything to raise money. One thing to consider is organising a Prom Night Fashion Show or Fashion Fair at the school using local shops. Sell stands/tables at the fair or agree a percentage of all sales on the night go to the Prom Fund. So get your thinking caps on.
With your budget in mind research your venue and entertainment options. These are the things you need to book up first as Prom season is a busy one and all the good locations and DJ’s get booked up early. The same goes for the good Prom Photographers – book early to avoid disappointment.
Once you have a date for Prom Night notify the students by letter and repeat the message again and again in posters and newsletters. When you know how much you will need to charge for the tickets get some fantastic tickets made up by the school Art Department and sell, sell, sell. You will need to know numbers at least 2 weeks in advance of the night for the venue/caterers.
