my perfect rpom tiara and rosesNo matter how elaborate or simple your Prom dress is, perfect accessories will set it off. Obviously your choice is totally dependent on the style of your dress but here are a couple of things to think about.

Underwear – good foundations make your frock hang well. If you have a backless dress or even a very strappy dress you may not be able to wear a conventional bra. Strapless bras or even individual breast supports might be the best option. Big, tummy flattening pants will streamline your figure in a tight fitting or clingy dress without giving you a visible panty line. Half slips stop the fabric of your dress clinging to your legs in an unsightly way. Whatever you decide to wear under your outfit, try it all on in advance with your dress and ask someone you trust how it looks.

prom shoesShoes - wear any new shoes round the house to break them in before Prom Night. If you’re wearing strappy sandals make sure your feet are free of cracked dry skin and your toe nails are neatly manicured even if you don’t paint them. Fantastically high heeled shoes look fantastic. You look taller, slimmer and they usually flatter your legs. However, they can be a nightmare to walk in, a challenge to dance in and can hurt like hell. There are special gel inserts which you can buy to relieve the pressure on your feet and make high heels more comfortable to wear and you can now buy roll-up slipper shoes to put in your handbag for when you can't stand your heels a minute longer.

Hosiery - what colour tights? Black may seem a good choice for evening but can look heavy with a light frock. Try out your hosiery with your dress well in advance to be sure it looks good. Spare tights are a must in case you get a ladder before you even leave the house.

Evening bags - designed to carry the minimum, brush, lipstick, mobile, money, hanky. When choosing one to go with your outfit think about what you might need to fit in it for the night.

Jewellery - needs pre-planning. It’s amazing how difficult it can be to find just the right earings or necklace to work with your outfit. Tiaras are not worn so often in this country but they are an option you could consider if it goes with your dress.
