Beauty
Okay, let’s get this said right up front. If you washed your hair, flicked on mascara, slicked on some lippy, pulled on your frock and went to the Prom with no more preparation than that you would look lovely. You have youth on your side - something you’ll never appreciate till you’re old.
However, we’re going to assume you want the fun of full Prom Night beauty preparations. Nothing is compulsory but some things are worth bearing in mind. Most importantly don’t leave your ‘look’ till Prom Night itself. Prepare.
Make up – try it on. Do the colours work with your frock. Are you allergic to any of the products … watery eyes don’t look good. Is it over the top? Ask someone you really, really trust!
Hair - want your hair up then practice putting it up, ask a friend or parent to do it for you or book a hair appointment to have it done on the day. Once it’s up, will it stay up? Wear it round the house, dance in the kitchen, soak in the bathtub – still up, then it’s good to go. Wearing it down, then book a trim for the week before so it looks it’s very best.
Skin – depending on your choice of Prom dress, it’s not just your face you need to think about. A strappy dress can reveal your back, chest and arms so make sure they are fit to be seen. Exfoliate, moisturise and rub in a little self tanning product in the weeks running up to Prom Night. If you want to go for a fake tan treatment at a salon book it for a couple of days before so it can fully take. In the run up to Prom Night steer clear of crisps and chocolate; drink plenty of water and get to bed early to give your skin the best possible chance of looking good on the night.
Nails – not into varnish, fine just make sure they’re clean. Bitten nails, try products which stop you biting a few weeks before Prom. You’ll be amazed how much better even a few days growth looks. Fake nails are always an option. Book the appointment for the day before Prom, that way you have a day to get used to them and less time to break them. Home manicure’s are fun. Get your friends together and practice on each other. Wearing strappy shoes? Don’t forget your toenails.
Perfume – a word on the subject. Perfume does not always make you smell nice. Some perfumes smell heavenly in the bottle but when you put them on they react with your skin or other products you’re wearing and smell disgusting. Perfume can also go off. So be wary of ancient dusty bottles sitting on your mum’s dressing table.
Perfume - try it on before the big night and don’t wear too much.
If the worst happens and you wake up with a zit on the day don’t panic there will be plenty of zits at the Prom.
